| The Shwe Gas Movement has recently published a new
report about the severe humanitarian abuses and environmental damage caused
by the development of the gas pipeline in Western Burma. This report, 'Supply
and Command: Natural Gas in Western Burma set to entrench military rule,'
presents a powerful indictment of the Burmese military regime's handling
of the development. The SPDC fails to regulate the work, with the result
that the companies involved have impunity from prosectution for the severe
environmental damage which they are creating. At the same time, forced relocation,
forced labour and military abuses of civilians by the Burmese army have
made many people flee across the border or forced them to become Internally
